Alexander Mebri

Alexander was born in 1960 in Jayapura West Papua. He is married with four children and now resides in Port Moresby. Alexander graduated from the University of PNG in 1994 with a diploma in fine arts. he has won the Coopers & Lybrand Award in Painting in 1992 and exhibited throughout PNG from 1992 to today. In 1999 his work featured in “New Colours from Old World Exhibition” in London and exhibitions from 2000 to 2005 in Hamburg, Ammessbek, Ratzeberg and Bayern in Germany. Originally from West Papua, Alexander had a natural talent in draiwng and painting, he has since established himself as an ‘eye specialist’ and his detailed work on exotic faces of indigenous people have won wide acclaim in PNG and overseas. “Contemporary art and tribal art both equally remain valid expressions of indigenous cultural values, all my works reflect this culture and are an expression of how it has shaped me from the past to the present”
