Martin Morububuna

The Witzig Gallery Morububuna Collection is pleased to offer some of the rare and much sought after original works by Martin Morububuna. PNG lost one of its finest artists with the sad passing of Martin Morububuna. He was a wonderful artist. Martin was born in Kwebwaga Village, Milne Bay Province. After receiving his primary & secondary education in Milne Bay, he joined the Creative Arts School as a student in 1974, and undertook further studies at the National Arts School, becoming President of the School SRC in 1982. Martin became heavily involved in bringing art to the streets and the people, painting many specially commissioned murals throughout Port Moresby. He also had a one-man show at the National Arts School in 1983. Working as a freelance artist, Martin received many commissions- carving the panels on the Speakers Chair and the NAtional Parliament Round House, and the panels in the credit house and the Mogoru Motu building in downtown Port Moresby. He has also participated in exhibitions in Rarotonga (1988), Sydney (1991), Belgium, Holland & Germany (1994), Brisbane & Townsville (1995), & New Caledonia& Indonesia (1996). With his work found in the Port Moresby General Hospital.
